Launch of EZ Riders Jersey

EZ Riders donned our official jersey on the 12th of January 2010. On that auspicious day, members of the EZ Riders assembled at Changi Beach and took a group photo. All members were in their splendour colourful new jersey, an excellent combination of beautiful green and yellow. With the tallest member in the centre, and the rest spread out equally to either side, a magnificent picture was taken.

It was a very simple ceremony but had great significance. It was a day to acknowledge and make known that a new riding group is in the cycling scene. More importantly a common consensus was inked amongst the members that a commitment was endorsed to participate in the regular cycling activity. It created an awareness which should encourage every member to actively be present on our riding days in order to propagate a healthy life-style in a fun way. It is the responsibility of every member to be present for these sessions as often as possible to their best of their abilities.

This cycling outfit and its activity is made possible because of the personal sponsorship of our bosses in sponsoring part of the costs of our jerseys and arm sleeves in order to ensure that all interested members can be part of its identity. In addition, the bosses had been strenuously advocating healthy living for all the staffs to be involved, and they themselves are leading the way. They are instrumental in the set up of EZ Riders. So it is paramount that we should seize this opportunity to embrace this activity to keep fit. After all, medical expenses are not cheap in Singapore. One should reciprocate this good gesture with zest and put in effort to be actively involved. It is indeed rare to find any other company to have bosses sacrificing their time and energy to harmonize the bonding of staffs in this manner, and of course, not compromising work effectiveness.

To add value to the above statement, I vividly remembered a wonderful moment during the recent retreat held at Safra Resort. It was during one of the event for the office staffs, whereby, each and everyone have to pick a post card. Once been picked, the person must relate his/her feeling, his/her perception in work place, environment and life in regards to what was written in the card. This guy held a card which has pictures of sunflowers, and upon his turn to speak, he said, “These sunflowers depict my happiness in this new environment and is the first time I felt so happy in this new company which I have not felt in my previous ones”. It was amazing that such honest statement came out from a guy who joined the company not very long and even though he is so busy with his work, he is so happy. That statement still lingers in my mind till today and might last for a long time.

What is the moral to that illustrious statement? It is self-explanatory, in that, we are working in a company with the management sparing no effort to create a balance working environment conducive to healthy living. We should treasure this moment and make full use of the time together.

Time is a factor most of us are complaining in order to devoid our presence in this or other activity, but one should not allow time to dictate or rule one’s life. In fact, “time” has no life, so how can “time” have no time? We ourselves must have control over “time” and to divide it according to our daily life, otherwise, “no time” will control us to the end, and when one have the “time”, it is often too late. Further to this, our life evolves in phases, and one of this is our Social Life. This is after we have settled down with family, followed by business or working life, we should spend some time in socializing with colleagues, old friends and acquaintances. Friends and associates are part of our growing up and they are an important ingredient in our lives. So, having a common activity, and as much as possible, it gives us an opportunity to gather to enjoy the happy moments and have fun.

In view of the above, it must be clearly understood that attendance in the group on certain day and time in this activity is not compulsory. Obviously, without doubt, it will be wonderful if all can be present on any given day and time. The important theme in this message is that, every member should take up this activity regularly, be it on his/her own so that when the opportunity arises to be together, then all riders should be able to keep pace with one another.

Cheers to EZ Riders
