1st May aka May Day –worldwide it is officially Labour Day.
In Singapore celebrations are usually with unions and government having speeches, giving awards and eating their hearts out and accumulate fats and cholesterol.
While in other countries they have protests and riots in the mist of H1N1 flu outbreak.
What did cyclist do on that day since it is a public holiday – CYCLING OF COURSE!.
We cycle to keep fit. There will be celebration and eating later on – but moderately.
Our group planned a northern cycling route covering an estimated distance of about 60km, not much but a good start.
It is surprising to note that on that day there were a lot of cycling activities around the island, probably more than some of the community’s May Day celebration.
When we stopped one of our “pit-stop” at the junction of Mandai and Woodlands road , to our surprise there were a lot of cyclists also having their "pit stop" there. There were as many as 10 to 20 groups of cyclists. Our group of about 10 was among the smallest group.
Different Cycling groups though strangers, have a spirit of camaraderie. We nodded and smiled when we cross path. At times, we admire and compare our bikes.

Keep it up fellow cyclists. Let cycle and keep fit, enjoy ourselves and keep safe.
